UNESCO World Heritage Volunteer Initiative 2021/2022 Recovery Match for Sukur Cultural Landscape September 2021/2022

This is an initiative geared towards raising awareness among young people, National, and international volunteers, local communities and concerned authorities on the need to protect and promote World Heritage Sites with a focus on the Sukur Cultural Landscape (Africa’s first listed Cultural landscape and Nigeria’s First World Heritage Site) in Madagali, Adamawa State, Nigerian. 

 The vision of the program is to restore hope for the indigenous tribes, break cultural barriers, build cultural dialogues, and strengthen the cultural exchange engagements to renew confidence in the minds of international communities, research and engender economic benefits for the State.

Sukur World Heritage Site offer opportunities for multi-disciplinary research on authentic culture, environment, anthropology, archaeology, agronomy, geology, mountain geography, biodiversity, and the traditional lifeways that will enrich the study of human history sustained for over 600years even in the throes of human conflict and a sweeping civilization. Sukur is compact with modes and themes that can support studies in authentic cultural traditions thereby posing as a one-stop site for research in human history, cultural resilience, agronomy, geology, technology, and other fields of academic and investment interest.

African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) As the implementing Organization of the WHV 2021-2022 Programme for Sukur, Nigeria, in collaboration with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Nigeria National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM), Government of Adamawa State, National Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Nigerian Red Cross (NRC), American University of Nigeria (AUN) and other relevant stakeholders, earmark to implement the program.
