AFIDFF Background

The African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the true image of Africa through documentary filmmaking and storytelling. It was established to discover and promote underrepresented stories, preserve the continent’s rich cultural heritage, and support emerging documentary filmmakers in showcasing African narratives—told by Africans, for the world.

AFIDFF provides a platform for young storytellers to share their narratives with global audiences. Through its diverse programs, the foundation promotes education, gender equality, good health, peace and justice, tourism, entrepreneurship, and social impact initiatives. By showcasing documentaries that highlight African traditions, history, and contemporary issues, AFIDFF fosters cross-cultural exchange and a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s and Africa’s cultural wealth while advocating for cultural rights and progressive policies across Africa.

The foundation is leading the course for a new line of documentary filmmakers who are charged to tell stories that transform through their work, foster education, gender equality, good health, peace and justice, tourism, entrepreneurship and encouraging the inclusion and respect of authentic voices through the promotion and celebration of truth to power great documentaries. The foundation is a multi-touchpoint yearlong engagement that offers unique opportunities to young professionals, participants, and stakeholders of African descent who have limited resources to explore the possibilities of telling their own African stories through documentary.

The organization also champions Cultural Education, blending learning with cultural expression. It highlights the power of African arts and creativity to inspire peace, deepen mutual understanding, encourage coexistence, and create sustainable economic opportunities for future generations.

AFIDFF it’s a year-round engagement platform connecting filmmakers and creatives worldwide. With thousands of participants, the foundation has positioned itself as a leader in African documentary storytelling, fostering an ecosystem where stories can drive cultural and social transformation.
