The Implementing Committee for the UNESCO World Heritage Volunteer (WHV) Initiative for Gashaka Gumti National Park and Sukur Cultural Landscape was officially inaugurated by Dr. Ibrahim Musa Goni, Chairman of the committee and Conservator General of the National Park Service (NPS).

The committee comprises members from national, private, and development sectors, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive approach to the project.

The committee is tasked with overseeing the execution of the UNESCO WHV project at Gashaka Gumti and Sukur World Heritage sites. One of their key objectives is to elevate Gashaka Gumti National Park to World Heritage status. The initiative aims to engage volunteers from around the world in activities focused on conservation, environmental education, and cultural exchange. These efforts will promote sustainable tourism, enhance local conservation initiatives, and raise global awareness of the ecological and cultural significance of these heritage sites.

The inauguration of this initiative represents a significant milestone in the conservation and promotion of our shared cultural and natural heritage.

The Director General of AFIDFF, Ms. Malame Mangzha, expressed gratitude to the committee members for the successful inauguration. She emphasized the importance of their dedication and commitment to ensuring a memorable and impactful WHV 2024 program, under the theme "WORKING ON THE FUTURE."
