AFIDFF and FRIN Sign MoU to Strengthen Heritage Conservation and Sustainability Efforts

The Director-General/Chief Executive of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Dr. Zacharia Buba Yaduma, visited the African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) for a strategic engagement and partnership discussion with the Director-General of AFIDFF.

He was accompanied by Mrs. Temitope Oniye, Director of Administration, FRIN Liaison Office Abuja, and Dr. Christopher Nwadike, FRIN Liaison Officer.

During the meeting, AFIDFF’s Director General presented an overview of the Foundation’s work and impact over the years, highlighting key achievements in heritage conservation, community engagement, youth empowerment, and documentary storytelling. Particular emphasis was placed on AFIDFF’s ongoing work at the Sukur Cultural Landscape, where the Foundation has led significant efforts aimed at preservation, restoration, and promoting global heritage.

In response, Dr. Zacharia Buba Yaduma commended AFIDFF for its consistency and outstanding contributions over the years, especially in Sukur. He also reaffirmed FRIN’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and protect Nigeria’s cultural and natural resources.

Discussions further explored areas of collaboration, including technical support, research-driven conservation efforts, environmental education, and community-based interventions that align with AFIDFF’s heritage preservation goals. Both institutions also emphasized the importance of creating stronger platforms for youth participation and public awareness through storytelling and documentation.

At the conclusion of the engagement, both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to long-term collaboration. This was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AFIDFF and FRIN, marking a strengthened partnership focused on conservation, heritage preservation, and sustainable development.
