Women Group from Republic of Niger Seeks Support from AFIDFF and Women NGOs in Nigeria to Alleviate ECOWAS Sanctions Impacting Women and Children

Today 12th December 2023, the Director-General African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) Mrs. Malame Mangzha and the founder of Integrated Women and Youth Empowerment Centre (IWAYEC) Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Mangzha played host to a delegation from a prominent women group from the Republic of Niger seeking support in amplifying the voices of women and children affected by the current situation as a result of the sanctions imposed by ECOWAS on their country in the aftermath of the coup.

The visit aimed to forge a collaborative partnership between the women group and the Women led NGO in Nigeria to advocate for the easing of sanctions that have disproportionately impacted the well-being of women and children in Niger. The delegation emphasized the urgent need for international attention to the humanitarian challenges faced by vulnerables in the region.

The head of the delegation, Mne Ibrahim Mariama Alhassane, a former Minister of Public function and former Vice President of Parliament, National Assembly and President Women and Children Victims of Family Violence, highlighted the severity of the situation, citing increased hardship and limited access to essential resources for women and children. The group appealed to the Women’s NGO to raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and advocate for policy changes that prioritize the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society.

Both AFIDFF and IWAYEC reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively with the women group, acknowledging the importance of a united front to address the humanitarian crisis. 

Also present at the meeting were the Women's Network for Peace (REFEPA), Women, Actions and Development (FAD), President, Nigerien Association for Promotion of Local Women’s Initiatives and Women led Network in Lake Chad basin.
