AFIDFF Trains Documentary Producers and Storytellers in Nigeria

On August 29, 2023, the highly anticipated media training program by the African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) commenced under the theme of “ Mastering the Art of Documentary." The opening ceremony was filled with various engaging activities.

The Director General, AFIDFF  emphasized the essential elements of documentary craftsmanship, which included reporting, storytelling, and photography. She also highlighted AFIDFF's role in projecting Africa's narrative on the global stage and introduced the esteemed panel of facilitators, including Mal. Danladi Hassan Kobi, Mr. Benjamin Ubiri, Mr. Abdullahi Haruna, Dr. Janice Collins, and Mr. Kalu Uche.

Mr. Benjamin Ubiri provided an in-depth exploration of the diverse aspects of media, dissecting its roles and functions. He eloquently outlined the structural framework necessary for effective media organizations and shared strategies to leverage media for financial success. Mal. Danladi Hassan Kobi, a seasoned documentary producer with over 35 years of experience, stressed the importance of quality sound production, voiceovers, and the art of transforming stories into compelling content.

Dr. Janice, the immediate president of AFIDFF, an EMMY award winner, and a professor at the University of Ohio, focused on the twin pillars of authenticity and integrity in creating impactful documentary films. She emphasized the significance of clarity, conciseness, and a conversational approach in the art of documentary filmmaking. She also provided an extensive overview of various writing models to enhance documentary scripting.

Concluding the sessions, Mr. Kalu conducted a thorough exploration of workplace ethics, highlighting the alignment of ethics with an organization's mission, vision, and objectives. He explained their crucial role in maintaining professionalism and fostering growth.
