AFIDFF celebrates World Illiteracy Day in partnership with IWAYEC and unviels Ziana Education Project

The African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF) in partnership with the Integrated Women and Youth Empowerment Center (IWAYEC) on Tuesday, September 8, 2020(World Literacy Day) launched the ZAINA Education project at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri.

A decade of Boko Haram insurgency brought about destruction of basic facilities and infrastructures and mass displacement of some inhabitants of Northeast Nigeria.  Over 1 million internally displaced children who live in camps or are hosted by communities in the region where the conflict has contributed to the mass destruction are suffering from lack of basic educational facilities

IWAYEC in conjunction with AFIDFF saw the need to engage these children educationally so they can enjoy the benefits of education as other children. The zeal to provide Education for all: no child left behind, birthed the ZAINA Education Project.

The ZAINA Project tagged ‘ Read books, Rid off Illiteracy’ was launched to help eradicate illitracy among children in these IDP camps.

The Event which was attended by Commissioner Women Affairs, Borno State, Education Diretor Women Development Centre Borno State, A representative from INGO and NGO. The Flag off was done at the City center where over 60 representatives of the children from the Shuwari camp, the Gubio camp and the Magumeri/Mongono camp after which we visited the camps where books, writing materials and a caravan Library was donated to the children in these camps.

Leading the delegation of AFIDFF, the Director General of the Organization, Mrs. Malame Mangzha said the gesture was to assure the children that we share in their pains and to let them know that IWAYEC and AFIDFF stands with them and believe in their future and expressed confidence that with this project, they can attain any height if they utilize the opportunity that has given to them.

We believe this project will mark the beginning of a heritage which will be embedded for years to come for these children.
